Not quite, but mild to moderate pain isn’t a sign of damage in these conditions, so as long as you’re acting within the guidelines above, you can feel comfortable to keep moving. No pain, no gain could be changed to: “Just some pain? Continue to train.” In the next couple of blogs in this series we will dive into some “work-arounds” to keep you training towards your goal while you’re rehabbing a tendon issue, and then some basic principles to apply when progressing rehab exercises to actually solve the problem of tendinopathy. In this situation, your nerves are firing a lot more than normal to alert you that you need to take care of something in your back! We can compare this situation in your body to a frozen computer – or a computer that isn’t firing like normal. When your computer is frozen or not working right, it is helpful to press the CTRL+ALT+DELETE buttons and just start fresh. A spinal manipulation of the lower back in this example works similarly and can reset the nerves in your body like pressing the CTRL+ALT+DELETE buttons on that computer.  The result of this “reset” to the nerves is bending, lifting, and twisting with less pain! That is why you may feel A TON better almost immediately after receiving this treatment.</image:title>

      <image:caption>Let’s take returning to lifting after having some back pain as an example here. Many times, if you have back pain, you will be told “well, you really shouldn’t lift that kind of weight again.” But let’s break that advice down a bit. What are the risks of lifting heavy weights if you have previously injured your back? Well, there is a risk reinjuring your back, we can’t deny that. Is it a big risk? That depends, and it depends on a lot of things: Do you have good form while lifting? Are you lifting in an intelligent fashion, considering an appropriate weight for your stage of healing, your current capacity, and in relation to other lifting that you’ve done recently? How’s the rest of your life going? Are you well-rested? Eating well? Managing your stress levels effectively?</image:caption>
